The Best Way To Dab Concentrates

Dabbing cannabis concentrates is a sure-fire way to get seriously ripped. Although dabbing has become more common in cannabis culture, there are some debates in the community over the "best way to dab."

In truth, every dabber has their own flair. Figuring out your perfect dabbing technique will take time, experimentation, and practice. However, there are tried-and-true methods that could help novices have an easier time getting into the world of dabbing. There are also many new devices that make dabbing user-friendly—especially if you don't feel comfortable lighting a blowtorch.

What's The Standard Way To Dab Concentrates?

To dab the "old school" way, you'll need the following items:

  • Glass dab rig with a nail
  • Blowtorch
  • Cannabis concentrate
  • Dabber tool

Dab rigs resemble glass bongs, but the former are smaller and have a nail rather than a bowl. This nail is where you'll place your concentrate after you've heated it with a blowtorch.

But before you light your blowtorch, you should measure out your ideal dose of concentrate on your dabber tool. For those who don't know what we're referring to, a "dabber" is simply a thin spoon that helps your scoop concentrate onto your dab nail without burning your fingers.

When you've got your equipment ready, turn on your blowtorch and carefully heat the nail for 45 - 90 seconds. Typically, dabbers wait about 30 seconds for their nail to cool off before putting the concentrate onto the nail.

After your nail has cooled for a few seconds, add your concentrate to the nail with your dabber. As you move your concentrate around, inhale the vapor through the mouthpiece.

If you're new to dabbing, you should consider using a thermal thermometer to monitor your nail's average temperature. Generally, low-intensity hits have temps in the 300° F - 450° F range, while those between 450° F and 600° F are considered mid-range dabs. Anything from 600° F to 900° F is classified as "high-intensity" and should be reserved for pros.

Are There Any Other Ways To Dab Concentrates?

If you're not a fan of the standard blowtorch method, there are a few alternative ways you could dab your favorite concentrates. For instance, "e-rig" devices now make "dabbing on the go" more convenient.

As the name implies, "e-rigs" are hi-tech units that look like a standard dab rig. Instead of using a blowtorch to heat a nail, these vaporizer-like devices usually heat your concentrates in a chamber. So, if you know how to use a desktop vaporizer, you shouldn't have an issue transitioning to an e-rig.

Speaking of vaporizers, many handheld devices are compatible with concentrates. You may not get the same intensity when dabbing on a portable vaporizer, but it's a solid option for those who want a quick and discreet session.

Lastly, new customers may want to research e-nails that are compatible with their dabbing rig. Since e-nails use an internal coil to heat up, you don't have to worry about using a blowtorch or guesstimating your preferred temperature.
